This captivating documentary takes an up-close, wild, and unfiltered look at Gary Young, the original (and highly unlikely) drummer of indie rock legends Pavement. Known for his on-stage handstands, gifting vegetables to fans, and haphazard yet influential production style, Gary was both a driving force behind the band's rise and the cause of his eventual crash landing. Straddling the line between free-form self-expression and chaotic self-destruction, his story is equal parts exhilarating and tragic.
Nevada City has a special connection to this film, with cinematography by local filmmaker David Nicholson and Jeffrey Clark as one of its producers. Jeff is also part of the Onyx Theatre and Nevada City Film Festival. After the screening, we’ll have some fantastic guests joining us for a behind-the-scenes discussion about the film’s making and the history it explores.
