The movie centers on a young man, Bart Tare (John Dall), who has been obsessed with guns since childhood but is morally opposed to killing. After meeting a sharpshooter named Annie Starr (Peggy Cummins) at a carnival, the two fall in love and embark on a dangerous journey driven by their shared passion for firearms. At Starr’s insistence the two begin a life of crime, steering them closer and closer to oblivion.
